Culpeper Man Arrested on Domestic Assault, Marijuana Possession Charges
Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office Press Release
At 4:50 pm Monday, March 17, 2014, Culpeper County deputy sheriffs were dispatched to Norman Grocery, 9496 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, for an assault. The suspect left on foot, but Sergeant Chad McKnight and Master Deputy Chris Bream located him on Norman Road. When Sergeant McKnight asked him to stop, the suspect- later identified as Joshua Q. Peters, 24, of Culpeper- appeared to be compliant until Deputy Bream exited the vehicle, at which point he ran into the woods. McKnight intercepted Peters in a driveway when he ran out of the woods, found him to be in possession of marijuana, and arrested him.
Eyewitnesses to the assault gave a suspect description that matched Peters to other deputies at Norman Grocery. Those deputies identified the victim, who was transported to Culpeper Regional Hospital for minor apparent injuries, as a relative. McKnight transported Peters to the magistrate’s office, where he was served with warrants for misdemeanor possession of marijuana and domestic assault and remanded to Culpeper County Jail without bond. Additional charges are pending.
