Ivy Nursery: Snow Can Actually Benefit Plants

Posted: Updated:

Garden centers and greenhouses in central Virginia are staying optimistic between all of Mother Nature's recent curveballs.

Ivy Nursery in Albemarle County received a shipment of shrubs and trees in the snow Monday morning. Owner George Carter says the unexpected winter weather did delay an ideal start of their season, but the snow actually helps insulate the plants.

“The more water we get in the ground, the better and the better season it will make,” Carter said. “The planting season will be better because we got so much moisture now, which is really wonderful.”

Ivy Nursery started its large shipments two weeks ago. Carter is hopeful for a busy season with the first day of spring just days away.
