VDOT: Most Roads in Central VA Clear of Snow

Posted: Updated:

Virginia Department of Transportation Press Release

CULPEPER — Interstate 64 and I-66 as well as all the primary highways in the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Culpeper District are reported clear of snow. The secondary roads in Albemarle, Culpeper, Fauquier, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock counties are in minor condition, mostly clear and wet with patches of snow and ice on the road surface.

Those planning to travel overnight should be aware that there is a chance of light freezing rain after midnight and travel may be hazardous. Any remaining snow and slush on secondary roads will refreeze as temperatures fall after dark and those roads may be slick early Tuesdaymorning.

VDOT crews will continue working overnight to complete plowing on the secondary roads and respond to any refreezing during the night. VDOT’s goal is to make all state-maintained roads passable within 48 hours after the storm ends.

VDOT recommends that anyone planning to travel check the conditions along their route and at their destination and plan their trip accordingly. VDOT’s 511 travel website, www.511virginia.org, is updated in real time with weather and road conditions for all highways in Virginia. Once on the road VDOT’s 511 mobile app provides real-time traffic and weather information for both iPhone and Android platforms. Travelers can also call 511 from any telephone in Virginia for real-time information on traffic and road conditions.
