Herring Addresses Cville Democrats at Annual Pasta Supper
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -
Virginia's attorney general Mark Herring made a stop in Charlottesville Saturday night to attend the Charlottesville Democratic Committee's annual Pasta Supper.
Herring addressed some of the issues facing Virginia lawmakers, who ended their 60-day legislative session last week.
He says he supports Medicaid expansion, an issue that has the general assembly divided and has brought a decision on the state budget to a halt.
“I've been a supporter of Medicaid expansion,” he said. “I think it's vitally important to be able to bring billions of dollars back from the federal government to Virginia and help hundreds of thousands of Virginians who currently don't have health insurance and access to good affordable health care.”
Herring also commented on his office declaring Virginia's ban on gay marriage unconstitutional. He says he wants Virginia to be on the right side of the law and the right side of history, and he believes the law violates the 14th Amendment of the Constitution.
