A winery in the valley took home top honors at the Governor's Cup competition this year.
Barren Ridge had a wine make it in the governor's case with a gold medal for the ’09 Meritage.
"It's a very intense wine. It has a lot of very robust flavors. ’09 was a very good year to grow,” said John Higgs, co-owner of Barren Ridge.
Eight others placed in silver and bronze. The wines will be promoted across the states and even abroad.
The competition was pretty steep as 410 wines were entered from 96 wineries across the commonwealth.
