Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a couple of residential burglaries that took place this week in Lignum and Elkwood. The first occurred in the daytime hours of Tuesday, March 11, 2014, on Eleys Ford Road, Lignum, where jewelry and a firearm were stolen. The second happened in the nighttime hours between Thursday, March 13 and Friday, March 14, 2014, on Edwards Shop Road, Elkwood, where a safe was stolen.
In light of these burglaries and the March 6 burglary at Norman Grocery, Sheriff Scott H. Jenkins offers prevention tips for property crimes:
Lock your doors and windows.
Turn a light on when you leave, or attach timers to a couple and set them to alternate on and off.
Install motion-activated exterior lights.
Install an alarm.
Join your neighborhood watch program or business crime watch. (For information, go to www.culpepersheriffsoffice.com.)
Report suspicious events, persons, and vehicles.
Photograph your valuables, and document makes, models, and serial numbers. If your property is stolen, this makes identification easier.
Sheriff Jenkins is requesting the public’s assistance for any information that may lead to identification of those responsible for these crimes. Information can be provided anonymously through Culpeper Crime Solvers number at 540-727-0300. A reward is offered for information leading to an arrest.
The Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division can be reached at 540-727-7523 or through the E-911 center at 540-727-7900.
