Gaughan for Congress Press Release

Tuesday, March 11th - Lawrence Gaughan, a Charlottesville native, actor, and founder of the non-profit advocacy group Gov360 announced today that he will seek the Democratic nomination for the 5th district congressional seat currently held by Republican Robert Hurt.

Lawrence has spent years working to encourage Americans to participate in the civic process by voting, and is running because he believes that Congressman Hurt, like many in Washington, are out of touch with the concerns of hard-working Virginians. Lawrence believes that the 5th district faces many challenges, and “We can’t expect career politicians to solve problems that were created by politicians.”

Lawrence supports measures that will ensure Virginians be paid an honest day’s wage for an honest day’s work, he will call for increased funding for education in the district, and he supports tax incentives to bring jobs to the 5th district.

Lawrence will kick off his campaign by visiting with members of the 5th District Democratic Committee at events in Richmond and Charlottesville on Saturday, and he will soon begin visiting every corner of the district to campaign and meet with voters.
