Thousands Weigh in on Albemarle’s Snow Make-Up Days
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va (WVIR) -
The Albemarle County school system has received an unprecedented amount of feedback about how it should make up snow days. As of Monday evening, nearly 6,000 people have weighed in on the issue.
The survey asks students about adding days to the end of the year, adding 20 minutes to the beginning of each school day starting in April, or applying for a waiver. The most popular response was to apply for a waiver.
“But the catch-22 with that is that we have to demonstrate that we made a reasonable effort to make up days and I think we have so far. We've been following the state guidelines so it may be that when we reach where we are right now, which is the 13 of June, we can waive the remainder of the days to not go into that next week,” said Assistant Superintendent Matthew Haas.
While applying for a waiver was the most popular option, the least popular was having Saturday school in April and May.
The school board will make a decision this Thursday. You have until this Wednesday at noon to participate in the survey. Click here for the survey.
