The #8 Virginia women's lacrosse team lost 14-10 against #1 North Carolina Saturday at Klockner Stadium.
UVa falls to 2-4 overall, and 0-2 in the ACC.
All of the Cavaliers losses this seasons have come against teams ranked in the Top 10.
The Wahoos trailed 7-4 at halftime, but cut the deficit to one on back-to-back goals by Liza Blue to start the second half.
The defending national champion Tar Heels would score seven of the next eight goals to get up 14-7 with 6:42 to play.
Virginia held UNC scoreless the remainder of the game, while registering the final three goals.
Head coach Julie Myers says, "It was nice to see we dug in deep after their run and we were able to score the last three of the game. Ending on a high note is a small consolation, but a lot of credit goes to Carolina. They're a great team. Very deep. They ran us hard. They were able to play a fast game, and execute better than we did."
Casey Bocklet and Liza Blue each had a hat trick for UVa, while Liz Colgan made 22 saves in net.
"If you focus on your record, you could just beat yourself down," says Colgan. "The way I see it is, the next game is the next game. It's just the next thing. I don't think you can look too far ahead, and I don't think you can look behind you either."
Virginia returns to action at William & Mary Wednesday at 7pm.
