ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va (WVIR) -

A special group of visitors stopped by an Albemarle County elementary school Friday morning to give students important fire safety tips.

A crew of Albemarle firefighters talked to children at Baker-Butler Elementary about what they should do in the case of a fire.

Assistant Fire Marshal Mel Bishop read a book called "No Dragons for Tea" to the group. Firefighters also demonstrated safety techniques and put on their gear.

“We want them to know that firefighters are their friends, that they're there to help them and a lot of times when they see someone dressed up in all that equipment, it can become scary to a small child, especially under the stressful conditions of a fire situation," said Bishop.

The firefighters are planning to hold this presentation at every elementary school in Albemarle County. The next stop is Red Hill Elementary on Monday morning.
