Albemarle Woman Hosts Blood Drive for 23rd Birthday
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va (WVIR) -
An Albemarle County woman who has depended on blood transfusions much of her life is helping others in the same boat.
Friday, with the help of the Red Cross, Miriam Curry hosted a blood drive for her 23rd birthday. People came out to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to celebrate and donate.
Curry gave blood at the event, but for a different reason.
"I've always wanted to do that but they can't use it because they want me to give blood, to give all the extra iron out that I got over the years, so I am giving but it's going nowhere except for the trash,” said Curry.
Regional Red Cross staff says they are grateful for the blood drive. Due to the harsh winter, donations have been down.
