Supporters of Same-Sex Marriage Visit Circuit Courthouses

Posted: Updated:

People who support gay marriage paid a visit to circuit courthouses Wednesday to raise awareness about an issue that's caused controversy worldwide.

An interfaith group of same-sex marriage supporters stopped by the Charlottesville and Albemarle courthouses, where couples - some who have been together for decades - applied for marriage licenses.

The president of Charlottesville Pride Community Network, Amy Sarah Marshall, says the event is a celebration, not a protest.

"We're celebrating love, we're celebrating the fact that we are at a point in history where we do have lots more rights than we did before but there's still more to be able to share with everybody,” she said.

Groups from dozens of communities visited 23 circuit courthouses throughout the state Wednesday.
