People lined up for a hot breakfast on this cold morning in Albemarle County Tuesday - and helped a good cause at the same time.

IHOP restaurants are offering a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes for National Pancake Day. In exchange, hungry patrons leave a donation for charity. At the IHOP in the Rio Hill Shopping Center, the donations go to the University of Virginia’s Children’s Miracle Network.

“You never know what the story is for a child and they might have to use a hospital heaven forbid, but they might not. You never know who you're helping by donating a couple bucks,” said Ryan Lightner, Children’s Miracle Network program coordinator at UVA Children’s Hospital.

This is the ninth year IHOP has held National Pancake Day. Last year, the Albemarle location raised about $3,500 through the event. The deal runs until 10 p.m.
