#1 UVa Baseball Downs Monmouth 6-3 in Game 1 of Series

Top-ranked Virginia Baseball downed Monmouth 6-3 Saturday afternoon the first of a three-game series at Davenport Field in Charlottesville.

UVa starting pitcher Nathan Kirby (3-0) worked six innings for the 'Hoos, giving up an unearned run, four hits and walk while striking out five. Virginia freshman Connor Jones picked up his first career save with a game-ending double play.

Cavalier Catcher, Nate Irving, hit a three run homerun while Mike Papi reached base in all of his appearances at the plate.

The 'Hoos will finish out the series tomorrow in a double header starting at noon at Davenport Field.
