RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The Williamsburg Winery is being honored for one of its wines.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe on Thursday night awarded the 2014 Virginia Wineries Association's Governor's Cup to The Williamsburg Winery for a 2010 blended red wine called Adagio.

The 2014 Virginia Governor's Cup Competition was conducted over three weeks of preliminary tastings. The final round of tastings was held at the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond in early February.

The winner was selected from 410 entries of both red and white wines from 96 wineries.

Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry Todd Haymore was named Wine Person of the Year.

Sales of Virginia wine reached a record high in fiscal year 2013 with more than 6.1 million bottles sold. Virginia ranks fifth in the number of wineries in the nation with 250 wineries.
