RWSA: Cville, Albemarle Water Bills Expected to Increase

Posted: Updated:

If you live in Charlottesville or Albemarle County, your water bill may be about to go up.

The Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority submitted its proposed operating budget Tuesday and it includes a new, top-of-the-line filtration system.

The new system will cost more than $18 million. To pay for it, the average single family water bill is expected to increase about $4 or $5.

“One way of thinking about it is if you want that assurance of really high quality water is it really worth four to five dollars a month to have that high assurance,” said Tom Frederick, executive director of the RWSA.

The system is called a granular activated carbon filtration system. According to RWSA, it garnered overwhelming public support at a hearing two years ago.

The RWSA finalized the budget in April.
