#1 UVa Baseball Sweeps ECU; Ready For Midweek Challenge with VMI
Top-ranked Virginia Baseball swept ECU in front of a record crowd for a February game and record crowd for a February series.
Head Coach Brian O'Connor said, "when you have a number of recruits in the stands like we did this weekend, its nice to see that you have this kind of fan following."
The Cavaliers only allowed four runs all weekend and didn't make a single error on defense.
O'Connor said, "If you throw strikes like we did on the mound, handle the ball defensively like we did, you're going to have a chance to win every ball game your in"
UVa starting pitcher, Brandon Waddell added, "You know when you have those guys behind you that will make plays - our whole thing is to get contact. We don't want to have these eight pitch, nine pitch at bats. Knowing that you have those guys behind you makes your job that much easier."
The 'Hoos got clutch hitting on Sunday with all runs coming with two outs to seal their 6-2 victory over the Pirates.
"Two out hits are going to win you championships," said UVa's Derek Fisher. "With this team we're going to battle each and every at bat but you know with two outs we're going to try and extend an inning."
The Cavaliers continue action against VMI Tuesday night, a team they blanked 12-0 in Wilmington just over a week ago.
Fisher said, "Playing a team like that, a midweek team that's gonna battle I think is the best thing we can do because you can't really take any days off. VMI - they play hard, they're going to play us hard. They're a good ball club."
