For the second time in a matter of days, part of the fence surrounding the unfinished Landmark Hotel collapsed.
It happened Friday and again on Monday when several large wooden panels came crashing to the ground. An officer was on the scene directing people away from parts of the blocked walkway. Luckily, no one was standing in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The panels are about 40 to 50 feet long and are supposed to prevent trespassers from getting into the building.
NBC29 reached out to the city about the issue Monday. Charlottesville spokeswoman Miriam Dickler says, even when the fencing is secured, officials find graffiti inside the building.
“Those boards, those walls are not in great condition and what happened today was a different section of the wall fell than happened last week and so we do have ongoing concerns,” Dickler said.
Friday, it took workers four hours to repair the fallen panels.
Dickler says the city has reached out to developer John Dewberry, who is supposed to come out next week and resolve the problem.
