The #5 Virginia men's lacrosse team pulled away in the second half of the match up to take down Rutgers 19-12.
The marks the 'Hoos first win by more than a goal as the Cavaliers improve to 4-0 in 2014.
"They probably weren't all going to be one goal games throughout the whole season," said UVa head coach Dom Starsia. "I was prepared to tolerate it if we were on the north end of those scores but it was nice in the fourth quarter to put a little breathing room in there."
Virginia was led by junior Ryan Tucker who knotted a career high five goals and tacked on an assist.
Tucker said, "It definitely feels great but I definitely couldn't do it without the help of my teammates offensively and defensively. Getting the ball in the offensive end and just getting my some chances and I was lucky enough to finish them."
Uva's Mark Cockerton had 4 goals and three assists while Owen Van Arsdale added two goals and a whopping four assists.
Virginia bettered Rutgers in groundballs 44-28.
Virginia will hit the road this week to face Mount Saint Mary's at 4 PM on Tuesday night.
