Planners Get Community Input for West Main Development
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -
Charlottesville planners are collecting the community's input on plans to re-develop West Main Street.
The Carver Recreation Center hosted Saturday’s “Taste of West Main” open house.
Planners and architects spoke about different concepts for the section of the city between downtown and the University of Virginia.
People who stopped by were invited to comment on those options for the corridor's future.
“We are looking at elements of urban design,” said Deana Rhodeside from the Rhodeside & Harwell group. “We are looking at transportation, how people move through the space in various ways – pedestrians, bikes, cars, buses.”
The options include parks, bike routes, and walking paths.
Feedback from Saturday's meeting will be put into a draft plan which will be available for public comment.
The city expects to have a final plan for West Main's re-development by the summer.
