A Charlottesville organization is organizing a statewide effort to support African-American young people. The Young Black Professional Network is putting together a rally in response to the national outrage surrounding Trayvon Martin and Jordan Davis.
President Wes Bellamy says he does not want young people in his community to feel like they don't matter.
"Many people feel as if the life of a black male, or the life of our African-Americans does not matter, and we want to show our kids that it does matter. What happens to you and your safety is important to us, and not just African-American kids, but all kids,” said Wes Bellamy, president of young Black Professional Network.
The rally will be in front of the freedom wall on Charlottesville’s downtown mall at 7 p.m. on Friday, February 28.
