Trader Joe's Donates Food to Salvation Army After Cooling System Failure
Donated food from Trader Joe's
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va (WVIR) -
What started as an unfortunate event for a grocery store has a happy ending for the Salvation Army. Thursday night, Trader Joe's was forced to get rid of all of its refrigerated food because its cooling system shut down.
Instead of throwing it all into the garbage, the store decided to donate it.
"We were very grateful to get the produce, the meats, the dairy products, and we are very thankful, it's a blessing for them to have contacted the Salvation Army,” said Lisa Chapman, Salvation Army director of volunteer services.
The Salvation Army received about 70 pounds of food from Trader Joe's. Some of it was served for breakfast and lunch Friday and the rest is packed away in the freezer for future meals.
