Augusta Sheriff’s Office Investigates Home Invasion

Posted: Updated:

The Augusta County Sheriff's Office is investigating a reported home invasion in Stuarts Draft.

The victims say a masked man burst into the house, threatened them with a gun and robbed them. No arrests have been made yet, but investigators say they're following up on several leads.

Neighbors say this kind of thing just doesn't happen in Stuarts Draft. But after an unrelated standoff this week that put three schools on lockdown, members of the community hope this isn't a new trend.

Investigators say around 9 p.m. Thursday, a man wearing a ski mask and gloves entered through an unlocked door at the home on Crestview Drive. They say he ran off with cash and other items. One of the victims says the man took some of her medications.

Sheriff's deputies got a partial K-9 track leading to a nearby road, and they believe he had a car waiting for him close to the home.

"They were most assuredly frightened last night and thankful they weren't injured. We were as well. Just a reminder to people to be vigilant, be aware of their surroundings at all times. Keep your doors locked,” said Sergeant Brian Jenkins.

If you remember seeing anything suspicious Thursday night in Stuarts Draft, call the Augusta County Sheriff's Office.
