A man charged with killing three family members in Madison County was back in court Wednesday on pretrial motions.
This case has been going on since Rashad Riddick's uncle, aunt and cousin were found dead in 2011. Now it looks like 26-year-old Riddick is one step closer to trial.
The court heard a number of motions Wednesday afternoon. Most notably, the judge granted Riddick's defense team and an investigator access to the murder scene.
Defense attorneys argued they wanted to examine the area and conduct sound tests. The judge agreed over the objection of the commonwealth's attorney, who said the scene had changed significantly.
But the court denied Riddick’s motion to be moved from Central Virginia Regional Jail to another location in Charlottesville or Northern Virginia. Riddick's attorneys said it would be less expensive for Riddick to be held closer to them.
The court will continue to hear motions on May 7.
