ABDUCTED ORANGE COUNTY CHILD LOCATED ON EASTERN SHORE:
AMBER Alert Helps Locate Child Within 27 Minutes of Activation
A missing Orange county girl is being returned to her family following a Virginia AMBER Alert activation. Amiyah M. Dallas, 5, of Orange, Va., was located by Virginia State Police in Accomack County Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 19). The girl’s aunt, Olivia N. Dallas, 22, of Orange, Va., is being held at the Accomack County Jail on one felony count of abduction and one count of unauthorized use of a vehicle.
Amiyah was last seen in the custody of her aunt on Feb. 18, 2014, in the 15,000 block of Mountain Track Road in Orange County. When the girl was not returned to her mother later that day and family were not able to contact the aunt, the girl’s family reported her missing to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
During the course of their Investigation, they were able to confirm that Olivia had been spotted in Queen Anne’s County, Md., late Tuesday night (Feb. 18). Further investigation also led the sheriff’s office to become seriously concerned about the child’s safety, at which time the sheriff’s office requested an AMBER Alert activation in hopes of safely locating Amiyah.
The AMBER Alert activation took place at 12:07 p.m., Wednesday (Feb. 19). Within minutes of the activation, the Virginia State Police Chesapeake Division Communications Center received more than a dozen phone calls from the public on the Eastern Shore about a woman and young girl fitting the description broadcast via the AMBER Alert.
Based on tips provided by the public, Virginia State Police Trooper A.D. Montross began searching for the suspect vehicle along Route 13 in Accomack County. At 12:34 p.m., the trooper spotted the burgundy 2001 C240 Mercedes stopped on the southbound shoulder of Route 13 near Painter, Va. The car had a flat tire. Olivia was in the driver’s seat and Amiyah was seated inside the vehicle.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Culpeper Field Office, is continuing its investigation into the abduction.
