Virginia Department of Transportation Press Release

CULPEPER — Another fast-moving winter storm is forecast to bring snow and sleet or freezing rain to Central Virginia beginning late Monday night and continuing until about dawn Tuesday. The Virginia Department of Transportation urges residents to keep a close eye on the weather and road conditions. This weather system is not expected to leave significant accumulations, but the combination of snow, sleet or freezing rain and temperatures at or below freezing may make some roads slick during the storm.

The Virginia Department of Transportation’s Culpeper District is prepared for the storm. Trucks were rigged with plows and loaded with sand and salt today; crews will report for duty at 8 p.m.. Crews will first focus their efforts on the interstate and primary systems and then shift to the secondary roads. VDOT’s goal is to make all roads passable within 48 hours after the storm ends.

Those t planning travel overnight and on Tuesday morning should check the weather and road conditions before they leave. This storm is predicted affect a large swath of northern and western Virginia, and conditions may vary widely across the region. VDOT advises drivers to know the road conditions along their route and at their destination and plan their trip accordingly.
