A longtime Waynesboro resident is making a run for a seat on City Council.
Alvin "Pete” Marks, Jr. announced his candidacy Saturday to represent Ward D.
Marks made the announcement to about 50 supporters at the Waynesboro Public Library Saturday afternoon.
If elected, the retired attorney pledges to focus on the city's core priorities and efficient government.
“My position will be to help, to the best of my ability, to preserve good, honest, conservative, efficient government in Waynesboro and that will be responsibility to the citizens,” Marks said.
Mike Harris currently holds the Ward D seat and has not announced whether he will seek re-election.
Marks hopes to collect 125 signatures by March 4 to get his name on the ballot.
The Waynesboro City Council election is May 6.
