New Burn Ban in Effect

Posted: Updated:

A new burn ban goes into effect across the Commonwealth Saturday on the first day of spring fire season.

The law prohibits burning before 4 p.m. each day until April 30 if the fire is in, or within 300 feet of, woodland or brush land containing flammable materials.

The Virginia Department of Forestry says this law is one of the most effective tools to prevent wildfires.

Violating this law is a Class 3 Misdemeanor that could cost you up to a $500 fine.
