Cville Reminds Property Owners of Snow Removal Requirement
An important reminder Friday for those living in Charlottesville: The city requires that property owners remove snow from sidewalks within 24 hours of the end of snow fall.
That means the sidewalks need to be cleared by 8 a.m. Saturday. If not, the city will hire someone to shovel the sidewalk and then send you the bill.
"When sidewalks aren't cleared, people walk in the roads. When people walk in roads, it's very dangerous. And we want to make sure people have the room to be pedestrian and motor traffic. We don't want the two to be in the same place,” said Miriam Dickler, spokesperson for the city of Charlottesville.
The city is looking for volunteers who would like to help those who cannot shovel their own sidewalk.
