Dominion Virginia Power says it is ready with 1,500 crews on standby across the state to work around the clock once this week's winter storm hits.
Crews from neighboring states are also ready to assist if they are needed.
“The type of snow that we are going to get causes outages. That is because it is a wet, heavy snow that sticks on trees ad tree limbs and ultimately can fall down on electric wires,” said Brett Crable, Dominion Power director of customer solutions.
Dominion encourages everyone to plan ahead with two days of supplies. It is asking customers to report outages as quickly as possible.
