The #7 Virginia men's lacrosse team narrowly avoided what would have been a shocking upset, as the Cavaliers rallied to beat Richmond 13-12 Saturday.
The Spiders were playing the first men's lacrosse game in program history Saturday.
UVa jumped out to a 6-2 lead early, but Richmond scored seven goals in a row in the 2nd quarter, and led 9-8 at halftime.
James Pannell scored one of his four goals with 7:19 remaining in the 3rd period to give Virginia an 11-10 lead.
The sophomore scored the last three goals of the game for the 'Hoos, and he has found the net eight times in two games this season.
Mark Cockerton, Greg Coholan, and Tyler German all scored twice for UVa.
Virginia (2-0) returns to action at Drexel Saturday at one o'clock.
