PVCC’s Come2College Event Prepares Ninth-Graders for Future

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va (WVIR) -

More than 100 ninth-graders from Albemarle County schools got a crash course on college and career skills Friday morning.

Piedmont Virginia Community College held its first Come2College event. Students from four Albemarle high schools got to attend workshops such as “dress for success” and “smart social networking.”

Some participants say it helps them think about a plan for their future.

“I'd like to go to college, maybe Marine reserves, out in five years, serve after that, do something in Marines that I can come out with and make a business or something out of it,” said Guy Berry, ninth-grade student at Monticello High School.

This initiative is sponsored by PVCC's Piedmont Futures and funded by a grant from the Albemarle County Rotary Club.

The workshops will be presented to ninth-grade students from Charlottesville schools next week.
