UVA Medical Center Initiative Focuses on Heart Health

Posted: Updated:

University of Virginia employees are pledging Friday morning to lead a heart-healthy life for 12 full weeks. The pledge is part of a kickoff to Heart Month and to celebrate National Wear Red Day.

UVA doctors say that 30 minutes of exercise every day is a good way to begin protecting your heart.

"That means you can still have a conversation while you're doing exercise and it can be as simple as walking or biking," said Dr. Brandey Patterson, cardiologist at UVA Medical Center.

Club Red is a women's heart health initiative sponsored by UVA Medical Center. It offers a free online program to help women make lifestyle changes.
