Talks between City, Landmark Hotel Owner Delayed

Posted: Updated:
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -

Winter storms are delaying talks between the owner of Charlottesville's uncompleted Landmark Hotel and the city about taking steps to secure the structure. That is according to city neighborhood development services director, Jim Tolbert.

Tolbert says he expects an employee of hotel owner John Dewberry to arrive this week, walk through the crumbling structure, and talk about the steps needed to shore it up.

“I think Mr. Dewberry was unresponsive previously…this gentlemen has reached out and said he was hired to try to get the projects done…he came to us - we didn't go to him - and he said, ‘I would like to try to see what we can do to resolve this,’” Tolbert said.

Tolbert says if the city and Dewberry cannot reach an agreement by council's next meeting on February 18, council will make a final decision to go forward on its own and make the building safe.
