Loan Program to Help Cville Businesses Make "Green" Upgrades

Now may be the best time for Charlottesville business owners to improve their energy efficiency. A new loan is offering low rates - and the benefit of "going green" could offset the cost.
The City of Charlottesville Clean Energy Commercial Loan Program aims to invest in renewable energy technologies and energy efficient improvements in the community. The program provides flexible financing and terms to help business owners overcome financial barriers to making improvements. Some rates offered through the program are as low as prime rates.
Projects that can be financed include lighting upgrades, heating, air conditioning, new windows, doors and structures, and refrigeration and food services.
"In a perfect world the energy savings would actually pay back the loans, so that's what we attempt to do and that's why it's a great program,” said Stuart Craig, senior commercial loan officer.
The loan program is funded in part by a grant provided by the city of Charlottesville. It's administered by LEAP through the University of Virginia Credit Union.
