Albemarle Schools Want to Step Up Enforcement of Bus Laws

Posted: Updated:
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va (WVIR) -

Albemarle County schools are making progress with plans to crack down on drivers who pass stopped school buses.

The school division has discussed putting cameras on buses to monitor violators. In order to do that, the county has to enact a local ordinance to give police the authority to review the video, issue citations, and collect fines.

A schools spokesperson says there is a lot of interest from the local government and the division hopes to have a program in place by the next school year.
