CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -
Monday night, Charlottesville City Council moved forward with a plan called the Strategic Investment Area (SIA), which affects the future of 330 acres in downtown.
The area's boundaries run from the railroad tracks near the downtown mall on the north to Elliott Avenue on the south. In a vote of 4 to 1, council approved the SIA, which creates new neighborhoods, new affordable housing, and new jobs.
A product of a year's worth of meetings between city officials and people who live in the area, the SIA is a 15 - 20-year plan of incremental changes to redevelop those neighborhoods and invest public dollars in improvements.
