AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va (WVIR) -

Trading cards are no longer just for sports.

A group in Fishersville is getting creative by using cards to share artistic talents.

The Augusta County Library hosted a free artist trading card workshop Saturday afternoon.

Participants were given materials, including watercolors and acrylic paints, to create three different cards.

Collector Ron Hiserman, who led the workshop, says they are traded and swapped just like baseball cards.

“It's a media that you can just let your imagination run wild,” he said. “You can use all kinds of things. If you are somewhat of an artist, you can do a lot of paintings. I like dogs. I like animals, so I do a lot of animal ones.”

Artist trading cards were started at an art exhibition in Switzerland in 1996.

Organizers of Saturday's workshop say it's a great way to connect with people who have similar interests.
