Olympic runner Alice Schmidt speaks to a class at Greer Elementary School.
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va (WVIR) -
The Olympics came to life for students at Greer Elementary School in Albemarle County Thursday, when two-time U.S. Olympian Alice Schmidt stopped by the school.
Schmidt spoke with students about the ancient Olympics games. Then she worked out with them to stress the importance of life-long exercise.
“Sometimes kids are feeling a little fidgety during the day and this is a good three to five burst of energy that kids can release and then hopefully re-approach class with a fresh mindset,” Schmidt said.
Schmidt is a middle-distance runner who competed in the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics. She is currently in the University of Virginia's pre-med program.
