RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The Virginia Employment Commission says the state's jobless rate fell to 5.2 percent in December.
The state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is down from 5.4 percent in November and down from 5.6 percent a year ago.
Virginia's unemployment rate has been trending down since joblessness peaked at 7.4 percent from December 2009 until March 2010.
Officials say the labor force expanded in December as more people reported working and the number of unemployed fell.
The Labor Department says the national unemployment rate fell to 6.7 percent in December, the lowest in more than five years. Rates fell in four-fifths of U.S. and rose in just two.
