Calf from Augusta has New Prosthetic Legs

Posted: Updated:

The calf that stole hearts around the world after losing both his back hooves to frostbite has new legs.

Hero the cow's owner, Kitty Martin, who runs an animal rescue ranch in the Shenandoah Valley, brought him to Texas for a new pair of prosthetic legs after the old pair kept creating sores for him. Hero is currently recovering after a series of procedures at Texas A&M.

Sometimes ranchers are forced to euthanize cattle, but Hero's owner was devoted to caring for him.

"As much hell as we've been through with all of the people that did not agree with this, I would go through this all over again to get to the outcome that we've come to. He was worth every minute of everything that we've been through,” said Martin.

Hero will stay at an undisclosed location in Texas for his safety. His owner says he's taking to the new legs well.
