CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -

Some Charlottesville High School athletes braved the cold Sunday to clean up the neighborhood around their campus.

Members of the CHS boys’ lacrosse team suited up with bags in hand to pick up trash along Melbourne Road Sunday afternoon.

The maintenance effort is part of the city's Adopt-a-Street program.

The athletes say the community clean-up is also a good team bonding experience.

“It's just fun to clean up the school, make your school look better and kind of hang out get to know people you might not already know,” said team member Will Werner.

The team comes out to pick up trash along the road every two or three months.

Players say it's important to try to make the area around their school look better whenever they get the chance.
