STAUNTON, Va. (WVIR) -
A Staunton restaurant owner is making sure no one in her community goes hungry or stays cold this winter.
Mary Beth Morgan hosts a free soup night every week at Ava Restaurant. This week for the first time, she partnered with Transition Staunton and several other groups to encourage people to donate coats as well.
The event resulted in hundreds of new coats, hats, and mittens for people who can't afford them.
“People were so nice and just, you know gracious,” Morgan said. “It's been a really humbling experience to see how many people in the area actually need something like this.”
Morgan says they donated six bags of clothes to families during the event.
She hopes to hold more coat drives this season.
