Staunton PD Launches Bike Registration Program

Posted: Updated:
Staunton is rolling out a new program to make it easier to locate and return bikes to owners once they disappear.

It's a little cold for it now, but in the summertime bicycle riding is a very popular recreational activity and mode of transportation in Staunton, so the Police Department developed a bike registration program to help riders.

The service is free to those who live in Staunton. Starting Monday, you can register over the phone or in person.

"Bicycles can range in prices. And typically there's no set price for it and that's why we're doing it for free. But it's also that a lot of kids' bikes are either misplaced or taken, and it just helps us get back bikes to the rightful owners," said Jennifer Stevens, public information officer for the Staunton Police Department.

For each bike registered, you'll receive a lock for free. To register, call the Staunton Police Department at 540-332-3842.
