UPDATE: Moore Found Guilty of First Degree Murder

Posted: Updated:
STAUNTON, Va (WVIR) -

The verdict is in for Staunton’s first murder trial in years. The jury found Steve Glenn Moore guilty of first degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony Friday night.

Moore, 62, was on trial for first degree murder and a firearm charge. Prosecutors say Moore shot and killed Van Bell, Jr. – his estranged wife Sharon’s lover - during an argument outside Bell's home last March. Bell died outside his home from multiple gunshot wounds to the head and neck.

It took jurors less than two hours to reach the decision after both the prosecution and defense rested their cases. Moore remained stoic, along with the dozens of others, in the courtroom.

The jury has recommended a sentence of 43 years for Moore - 40 years for the first degree murder charge and three years the firearm charge.

A formal sentencing date has not been set.
