Harrisonburg Police Make Arrest in Commercial Burglaries

Harrisonburg Police Department Press Release

On January 23, investigators with the Harrisonburg Police Department arrested Ervin Guillen-Mendez, 18, of Harrisonburg, in relation to numerous commercial burglaries that occurred in October 2013. These burglaries occurred in the areas of Carlton Street and the 700 block of East Market Street.  Guillen-Mendez was charged with the following:

  • Breaking and Entering, 18.2-91, (Felony), 5 Counts
  • Grand Larceny, 18.2-95, (Felony), 2 Counts
  • Conspiracy to Commit Felony, 18.2-22, (Felony) 2 Counts
  • Petit Larceny, 18.2-96, (Misdemeanor), 1 Count
  • Property Damage, 18.2-137, (Misdemeanor), 5 Counts

Lt. Chris Rush, Division Commander of the Criminal Investigations Division, states, “Burglary offenses, both residential and commercial, tend to be very traumatizing to owners and victims. Many times their sense of security and safety is lost after their home or business is burglarized. The Harrisonburg Police Department takes these offenses very seriously and works diligently to solve these crimes. As in many cases, the success of this case would not have been possible without the assistance of those within our community.”
