Greene Residents Meet with AT&T Representatives on Proposed Cell Tower
Meeting on proposed AT&T tower in Greene
People who live near the proposed site of a new cell tower in Greene County met with AT&T representatives Thursday night. The company says the 199-foot cell tower would improve service in Greene County and would sit off Route 810 near the town of Geer.
Those who object to the tower say they want AT&T to consider alternate locations that aren't close to a school and a church in the county. They also asked AT&T to look into what the cell tower would do to the real estate in the area - but the biggest concern is that the tower would ruin the untouched land.
"We plan on being heard. This valley is so pretty. If you don't draw the line here, where are you going to draw the line," said Pastor Gordon Meriwether, who is against the cell tower.
AT&T says it will make sure to meet Greene's requirements and will make the tower blend in as much as possible.
The Greene County Planning Commission will take up the issue on February 18. At this point, the proposed site could still change.
