Snowfall Breaks Records in Mid-Atlantic

Posted: Updated:

WASHINGTON (AP) - The National Weather Service says snowfall records have been broken at the Washington area three airports and there are reports of up to 11 inches of snowfall in some parts of the mid-Atlantic region.

Dulles International Airport received 8.5 inches of snow during Tuesday's storm, breaking a 2001 record of 3.2 inches and Reagan National Airport received 3.8 inches, breaking a 3.5-inch record set in 1982. More than 5 inches of snow fell at Baltimore-Washington International Airport, breaking a 1982 record of 2 inches. The exact new record for BWI is still being confirmed.

A spotter in Washington measured 6 inches and in Cecil County, Md., a spotter measured 11 inches Tuesday night. In Delaware, the Wilmington Airport received 10.5 inches by midnight, but snowfall continued into the early morning.
