ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va (WVIR) -
Central Virginia Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts volunteered their time in Charlottesville Saturday as a tribute to the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The Monticello Scouting District partnered with the Charlottesville African-American Pastoral Council to provide a day of service at Barrett Early Learning Center.
The troop took on various tasks such as cleaning windows, replacing ceiling tiles, and painting areas in the building.
“We want them to understand not only that we're doing community service, because that's something the scouts do all the time, but to understand that today was a special day, and that this program was in celebration the anniversary of Martin Luther King,” says Randy Seelye, the program chair for Monticello Scouting District.
About 25 scouts participated in the clean-up and renovations.
Organizers wanted the boys to reflect on how Dr. King changed the course of the country.
