Charlottesville Area Transit (CAT) will be adding more hybrid buses to its fleet.
This spring will bring the first of several on order. CAT is expecting another to come next year, then four more in 2018.
Transit manager John Jones says the new buses are not only good for the environment, but they also have several advantages over the old buses.
"About 30 percent better fuel mileage, they accelerate a lot more smoothly so our passenger gets a smoother ride, they run more efficiently, they brake a little better when we're slowing down, they're quieter, they put off less emissions, they're better for the environment overall," Jones said.
CAT already has nine gas/electric buses in its fleet.
